Climate conditions and crowd levels for each month of the year.
Feels mild by northern standards. But the 15°C (60°F) highs can feel cool when the sea wind picks up.
Much the same. Highs around 16°C (61°F), lows at 9°C (48°F), and the same light drizzle possibility without much actual accumulation. The almond trees in the Sicilian interior typically start flowering in February, and the light begins to feel warmer.
Marks the beginning of the transition. Temperatures edge up to 17°C (63°F) in the afternoons and the days lengthen noticeably.
Is when Syracuse opens up. At 19°C (67°F) during the day and 12°C (54°F) at night, it's ideal walking weather. Zero recorded rainfall and the city's outdoor culture, the cafes on Piazza Duomo, the fish market in Ortigia, shifts back into full gear.
Feels like early summer without the intensity. Highs reach 23°C (74°F) and evenings are warm enough for dining outside in a light layer. The sea is approaching swimmable temperature and the archaeological park is at its most atmospheric.
Is when summer properly arrives in Syracuse. Highs push to 29°C (84°F), nights stay at 21°C (70°F), and the dry season is now fully established. The Ortigia waterfront gets busy and hotel rates climb.
Is the peak month. 32°C (90°F) highs, 24°C (75°F) lows, zero rain. The afternoon heat in Syracuse can be taxing if you're exploring on foot, and the city's historic streets offer little shade. Early mornings and evenings are the time to move.
Matches July almost exactly at 32°C (90°F) high and 24°C (75°F) low, and this is arguably the busiest month of the year as Italian and northern European vacationers fill the coast. Ferragosto in mid-August means some local businesses close for a week or two.
Brings relief. The highs drop to 28°C (83°F) and a few millimetres of rain occasionally appear, though it remains overwhelmingly dry. The sea temperature is at its warmest now, having absorbed three months of sunshine, making early September arguably the best beach month of the year.
Settles into a comfortable 24°C (75°F) during the day and 18°C (64°F) at night. Rainfall ticks up slightly to 3mm but the weather is mostly settled. Syracuse in October has a particular quality. Quieter, golden, and with the kind of light that makes the limestone of Ortigia glow in the late afternoon.
Brings cooler, occasionally blustery days at 20°C (68°F) with lows dropping to 14°C (58°F). The 3mm of rainfall is real but still modest. You might encounter a proper rainy day. They're the exception.
Sees Syracuse at its coolest and quietest. Highs hit 17°C (63°F), lows sink to 11°C (51°F), with another 3mm of possible rain. Christmas markets appear in Piazza Duomo. The city takes on a different, more local character.
